HVAC Schools in South Carolina

HVAC training, education or certification in South Carolina is very accessible since various HVAC schools are situated in different corners of the “Palmetto State”.  This state has hot summers and mild winters which is I think, the reason why there are a lot of schools offering HVAC programs to facilitate the demands for HVAC techs that are greatly needed during these seasons.

 

To give you an idea why HVAC systems are used in residential and commercial areas in South Carolina, here are some of the facts and figure about South Carolina’s climate.  In most parts of the state the average temperature in daytime is between 86–93 °F. In the coastal area, the average nighttime temperature is from 70 to 75 °F while in the inland it’s between 66–73 °. South Carolina’s climate is considered as humid subtropical and in average it receives between 40 inches and 80 inches of precipitation every year.

Aiken Technical College is located at 2276 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville. Its campus is located in a rural-urban fringe and recently, it has a student population of around 2,583. It currently offers certification programs and associate in applied science (AAS) degree in HVAC. This technical school has a graduation rate of 9% and transfer-out rate of 11%. While you are in ATC campus you can also visit Jade Garden Chinese Food Restaurant and try their sesame and pepper chicken!

 

Aside from ATC, you can also found another technical school in Sumter that offers HVAC courses.  Central Carolina Technical College is a public institution that has a current student population of 4456 and graduation a rate of 11%.  Its Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) program is the first HVACR program in SC to be granted accreditation. Forty-three miles from Sumter is the city of Columbia where Centura College-Columbia is located. Same with CCTC, Centura College offers HVAC Trainings. Specifically, it offers certification and diploma in Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning which both has a course length of 12 months. The city of Sumter and Columbia are known for Swan Lake Iris Gardens and Columbia Museum of Art, respectively.

 

Florence-Darlington Technical College is a public school in Florence, South Carolina that offers various Applied technology courses in which one of these is Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Technician (HVAC) program. Located at 2715 W. Lucas Street its recent student count is 5991 and its tuition fee costs around 5933. If you are an art lover and history buff like me, you can also visit Florence City’s Florence County Museum which houses fun and interesting exhibits.

 

Columbia, South Carolina’s capital,  is not only a great place for kayaking and canoeing but also can be the right place to take your HVAC training. You can take advantage of the HVAC Training Program offered by Fortis College-Columbia. FORTIS’ training program is not only available within Columbia, but it is also available in other states; a great opportunity for those of you who are living outside South Carolina. FORTIS’ HVAC Training Schools are also located in the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, texas and Virginia. FORTIS is a private for-profit institution that is located at 246 Stoneridge Dr. Ste 101, Columbia.

 

Adding to the list of technical schools that offers HVAC program is Greenville Technical College. It is a public college in Greenville City that recently has a student population of 13,448 and graduation rate of 9%. HVAC diploma program in GTC can be taken in less than a year and it also have classes on days and evenings which allows students to have a flexible schedule. After taking one diploma degree in HVAC, students can proceed to take an Associate Degree in Applied Science majoring in HVAC and Refrigeration. Greenville Technical College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

 

A part of  South Carolina Technical College System, Horry-Georgetown Technical College is a two-year higher education institution located at 2050 Highway 501 East, Conway. In order for you to get a Residential Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Service Technician Certificate in HGTC, you must pass the Core and Type Two sections of the Environmental Protection Agency examination. All of the HVAC students in HGTC are required to take the Residential Air Conditioning and Heating Industrial Competency Exam (an Industry Competency Examination ).

 

Midlands Technical College in Lexington Drive, West Columbia, is a public technical school with a student population size of 11634 and tuition fee of approximately $ 6,200. HVAC Programs in MTC are the following: Basic Air Conditioning, Electrical Controls and Troubleshooting; Heat Pumps; NATE Heat Pump Certification; and an online class on HVAC. If you opt to study in MTC you can also try Calloway’s Sports Bar & Grill’s Red Wings. This Sports Bar happens to be just approximately 8 mins drive away from MTC.

 

If you are looking for these specific programs on HVAC- Heating Fundamentals Certificate, Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Technology (AAS) or Refrigeration Applications Certificate, then try to check Piedmont Technical College. Basically, they are offering these courses that will help you be prepared as an HVAC tech. PTC tuition fee is more or less around $7,500 and according to latest report, there are 6171 enrolled students in this college.

 

Spartanburg Community College is a public institution located in a suburb in Spartanburg. It offers both certificate and AAS programs in HVAC. This college in  Upstate South Carolina region is accredited by Technology Accreditation Committee of the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology and its tuition costs around $4939.

 

If you want to study in a place near the beach, how about you take a look at Technical College of the Lowcountry. It is located in Beaufort where Hunting Island State Park is also located. Enrollees in TCL’s HVAC program can opt to have certificates of training in Commercial Refrigeration, HVAC Systems Designing, and Heat Pump. If you want to take a visit TCL is located at  921 Ribaut Road, Beaufort, South Carolina 29901-1288.

 

Aside from those aforementioned HVAC schools, there’s also one HVAC school in the city of Pendleton. It is the Tri-County Technical College that offers Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Technology Associate Degree. It has day and night classes and it also allows working students to have swing shifts (They recommend working students to take the night classes). You can enroll on any term for this program and full-time day students are expected to finish the degree after five terms. TCTC’s tuition fee is around $10,000.
